CONNECTING WITH DIVINE HELP

03/12/2010

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.” - Ps 121:1-2

Help from above is the answer to all our earthly needs. Needs exist for as long as help is withdrawn. No wonder the Psalmist said, “I will lift up my eyes…” Even though he was a mighty man, he understood that except for the help of God, human might ends in utter defeat. In Ecclesiastes 9:11, perhaps after he had made every possible effort, Solomon said, “I returned…” He returned from his sweat and labour “and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill…” There will always be people who are more gifted, more intelligent and eloquent than you. You can’t compete with them naturally, but when you have the help of God you overtake them all and people begin to see you as a strong man. That is why I would rather be addressed as a man that is helped of God than a strong man because the truth is, I have no might of my own, I am simply helped of God.

If you read the account concerning Joseph in Genesis 49:22-25 you will see that inspite of his beautiful dream, he would never have made it except that God helped him. The Bible says, “Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run over the wall.” He had all it takes to make it, but see the next verse: “The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him.” They would have killed him. “But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob…Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee…” Your dream is not enough to make you excel. Your expertise and eloquence can fail, it is the help of God that makes men.

One very easy way to receive the help of God is through prayer. Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” No matter how weak you are, you need to develop confidence in God and come boldly to His throne in prayer. And at His throne we obtain mercy, and grace to help in time of need. There is nobody who doesn’t have need but the way to destroy need consciousness is to walk with the consciousness of God’s help. If you ever lose the consciousness of God’s help you will be beaten and battered.

Every need crumbles when God’s help comes down. For four hundred years and thirty, the Israelites were struggling to come out of Egypt but when divine help came down, they were out in one night. My heartfelt prayer for you is that all through the month of September, whatever your need may be, my God will help you!
